educational philosophy

My educational philosophy at the moment is mostly informed by the notion that I do not have any of the answers, I want to write you a permission slip to find your own answers. I want to take on more of a guidebook role and less of a directions role. I want to educate others by giving them the tools to find out what is true for them. I suppose in this way I am similar to the existentialists, but I think there are also some frameworks that everyone would benefit from understanding and practicing in their sexual explorations.

I think the cultural understanding of what "sex therapy" means is closer to a pragmatist approach of finding a solution to every problem. I do not feel encouraged by this attitude when I am working with a professional or learning from a professor.I am inclined to believe that I will become the teacher that I needed when I was younger, so I do not think this approach is what I will adopt in my future career.

At the end of my degree, I hope I will feel more like I have some answers. At the moment, it seems like every new course and idea and philosophy serves as definitive proof that I know nothing at all. I would like to feel less like that, and I would like to help others out of that predicament. Over all, I think this just shows that I have a vast amount of studying, introspection, reflection, and work with a therapist to do before I graduate from Widener.
